SIALKOT, July 8: The body of a man kidnapped for ransom was found in fields near Praagpur village in Sadar police precincts on Tuesday after his family refused to pay the money.
Unidentified men abducted Muhammad Sadiq from his fields and demanded Rs1 million ransom from his son Muhammad Jehangir, who is a retired army personnel. On their refusal to pay the money, the kidnappers killed the landlord and threw his body in fields.
The grieved family told reporters that the culprits were still demanding Rs1 million as extortion money (jagga tax) and hurling threats to kidnap any other family member if their demand was not fulfilled. The police registered a case with no arrest so far.
EXTORTION: Three influential allegedly occupied the haveli (lodge) of an expatriate Pakistani’s wife in Bhaagowal village in Sadar police precincts after she refused to pay them Rs200,000 extortion money.
Asmatullah and Allah Ditta and another compelled Maqsooda to pay them the money because her husband was settled in Europe and earning handsome income.
Though the police registered a case, they were yet to arrest the occupants or evict them from the lodge.
BODY: The body of an unidentified man was found floating in Upper Chenab Canal near Bambanwala on Tuesday.
The police said that unidentified assailants had tortured the 45-year-old before his death and later threw his body into the canal to conceal their crime. The police registered a case.
MURDER: A youth axed his sister-in-law to death allegedly over a petty issue in Malleyki village near Daska on Tuesday.
Saleem had demanded some money from the wife of his brother but she refused. Saleem later axed her to death and fled.
The Sadar police registered a case with no arrest so far.
