KHANEWAL, July 7: A number of union council (UC) nazims boycotted the district council’s session here on Monday against, what they said, sealing of financial records of local councils by the government.
The district council’s session, convened by District Naib Nazim Pir Ahmed Nadeem Bodla, was to discuss its annual budget for fiscal year 2008-2009. The members, however, protested suspension of UC secretaries by the provincial government and sealing of the record. The budget was presented before the council on June 30.
During the session, UC nazims urged the house to include the revenue collected from Jahanian tehsil in the annual budget.
They demanded the budget be made public friendly and funds be allocated for those schemes, which were approved by the council members.
They said the district council should work in collaboration with provincial and federal governments.
Those who spoke were: Kahkshan Ijaz, Hafiza Sehrish, SB Shafiq, Ikram Ghani, Chaudhry Nasrullah, Ajmal Bhutta, Abdul Rauf Kamboh, Khalid Sharif, Shahzad Kamboh, Riaz Mirali, Afzal Dilloo, Zeeshan Aftab Khan Daha, Nadeem Abdullah and Imran Iftikhar Hiraj.
