ISLAMABAD, May 3: The chairperson, National Commission on the Status of Women, Justice (Rtd) Majida Rizvi, has expressed shock over police violence against human right activists in the capital on Thursday.
She expressed her solidarity with the women right activists, who were manhandled by the police. She condemned the unprovoked assault on peaceful demonstrators, mostly women.
Justice Majida hoped that the capital administration, taking a serious note of the matter, would take immediate action against those responsible.
About the concerns raised by the demonstrators, particularly in relation to Hudood ordinance, she assured the women rights groups that the issue was of the highest priority at the commission.
In this regard, a special legal committee has been set up, comprising legal experts and Islamic scholars, to conduct an in-depth review of the ordinance, beginning with the Zina ordinance. The committee will submit its recommendations to the NCSW chairperson within six weeks.
