LAHORE, June 23: Publishers of the Holy Quran have stressed the need for exemption of import of Quran paper from the customs duty and recycling of the worn out manuscripts of the holy book.
These demands were put forth by Anjuman Nashireen-i-Quran president Syed Ahsan Mahmood, Anjuman Tajran-i-Kutab president Khalid Pervez and Punjab Quran Board member Muhammad Nazimuddin during their meeting with Punjab Additional Auqaf secretary Arif Anwar Baloch at the Aiwan-i-Auqaf here on Monday.
The publishers said that import of the Bible paper had been exempted from the customs duty, but the facility was not available for the import of Quran paper.
They also urged the government to make arrangements for recycling of the worn out manuscripts of the Holy Quran through paper mills.
Arif Anwar Baloch called upon the publishers to ensure error-free publication of the Holy Quran.
He said the Holy Quran should not be published on less than 52 grams paper in compliance with the provisions of the Publication of Quran Act.
The papers wasted during printing should be disposed of with due reverence in accordance with the religious injunctions, he said. — Reporter
