GUJRANWALA, June 23: As many as 26 polling stations out of 116 have been declared sensitive for by-election to PP-99, Kamoke.
The district returning officer has ordered deployment of heavy police force at these polling stations on June 26. The district administration and police have completed all necessary arrangements to maintain law and order on polling day.
Reports reaching here suggest that PPP candidate advocate Qaisar Sandhu is expected to win this seat as PML-N hopeful Hassan Saifullah Buter has withdrawn his nomination papers in favour of Mr Sandhu on the direction of party leadership. Most of the nazims and councillors are also supporting Mr Sandhu.
As many as 30 candidates had submitted their nomination papers for the constituency. Later about half a dozen withdrew from the contest.
It was learnt that Punjab PPP secretary-general Ghulam Abass had also filed his nomination papers for PP-99, but the party high command did not award ticket to him. The PP-99 had fallen vacant after the death of Qaisar Sandhu’s elder brother Nasir Sandhu.
