LAHORE, June 21: A youth and a married woman committed suicide allegedly over domestic issues in two separate incidents on Saturday.
In the first incident, a young man ended his life by swallowing poisonous pills in Mustafaabad.
The police said Waseem, of Boorewala, was living in a rented house in Mian Meer Colony and working at a tailor’s shop in the same area. He was disturbed owing to domestic problems as his father had recently contracted his third marriage. In addition, Waseem did not want to marry the girl selected by his father.
On Saturday, Waseem took poisonous pills and was rushed to Mayo Hospital where he expired.
In the second incident, a woman committed suicide. The Nawankot police said Robina Bibi had developed disputes with her husband, Yaseen, over domestic issues and the couple had scuffled several times in the past.
On Saturday, both quarrelled again as a result of which Robina took it to heart, took pills and fell unconscious. She was taken to Mayo Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.
Case against wardens: Police have registered a case against two traffic wardens who shot at and injured a motorcyclist with an official pistol near district courts on Friday night.
The Islampura police have already arrested wardens Shafiq and Mukhtar on the complaint of victim Zargam.
A police official said the wardens would be presented before a local court on Monday (tomorrow) for physical remand.
He said Shafiq opened fire on the youth when the latter called his other class fellows residing in Crescent Hostel near the crime scene for help. About a dozen students rushed to the spot and started quarrelling with the wardens.
The warden opened fire in self-defence when the students had overpowered him and gave him a sound thrashing on the road and a bullet hit Zargam’s leg.
The official said an inquiry had been launched.
