Woman’s killer arrested: Daughter’s birth

GUJRAT, June 21: Police on Saturday arrested the man who had killed his brother’s wife at Jaurra village allegedly for giving birth to a daughter.

The accused, Faisal Basheer, shot Tahira Bibi, the wife of his brother who lived abroad, at his house on 19 June.

Kharian sadar police have registered a case against three people, other than the accused, including victim’s father-in-law Basheer Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz and Sheraz alias Fauji on the report of Mushtaq Ahmed, an uncle of the deceased woman.

Mushtaq told the police in the FIR that the victim’s in-laws got annoyed when she gave birth to her third daughter. The victim had a son who died a few years back, he added.

On June 19, he said, the in-laws of Tahira again quarreled with her over the issue and the accused shot her dead.

The victim, who was also from Jaurra village, was buried on Friday. Her husband living abroad has been informed of the incident and was reportedly trying to reach Pakistan. Police have arrested the main accused and are interrogating him. The co-accused have so far not been arrested.

Sources said the accused told the investigators that he shot Tahira for having `loose morals’.
