DUBAI, June 19: Dubai authorities dropped a drug investigation against Pakistani cricketer Mohammed Asif and he will be deported, the public prosecutor said on Thursday.

Mohammed al-Nuaimi, the prosecutor, did not say when Asif, who has been held at the Dubai International airport, will leave the country.

Asif has been in detention in Dubai since June 1, when authorities allegedly found an illegal substance in the fast bowler’s wallet as he travelled though the international airport. He was en route back to Pakistan after playing in the Indian domestic Twenty20 competition.—AP
