32 booked after PPP, PML-F workers clash

MIRPURKHAS, June 17: The police have booked Umerkot District Nazim Faqir Manghan Mangrio, union council nazim Ghulam Mohammad Mahar and 30 others in a murder attempt and robbery case following a clash between PPP and PML-F supporters.

The supporters of Pakistan Muslim League-F and Pakistan People’s Party clashed at a musical show organised by a private TV channel in Umerkot on Sunday.

During the concert, PML-F supporters raised the slogan of Bhej Pagara and PPP activists responded with the slogan of Jeay Bhutto. When a vocalist sang a song which says “Bhutto Jay Dushmanan Khay Golay Golay Marindaseen’ (We will look for the enemies of Bhutto and kill them), PML-F supporters damaged movie cameras, hurled stones at the stage and resorted to aerial firing. Police remained silent spectator.

Later, on the complaint of Mumtaz Arisar the police registered a case against 32 people, including the district nazim.

DEMO: Labourers working at brick kiln staged a demonstration outside the press club in Umerkot on Monday to protest against non-payment of their wages.

The protesters told journalist that they had been working at the Bismillah Brick Kiln for the last one year and recently kiln owner Jamal had stopped paying wages to them. When they demanded wages, they alleged, Jamal was annoyed and tortured them ruthlessly.

They said that they were not being given proper food and medicine and alleged that Jamal wanted to usurp the wages of 200 people.

They said that they had moved an application in the court of the district and session judge.—BoC
