GUWAHATI, June 16: Indian troops killed four separatist rebels in a shoot-out in the troubled northeastern state of Assam on Sunday, an army commander said.
The outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) guerillas were killed after opening fire on soldiers who were searching for their hide-out in Sivasagar district, he said.
“Based on specific intelligence inputs, an army column reached the area looking for a group of militants who had taken shelter in a house,” said the commander, requesting anonymity.
“One of the rebels managed to escape although a hunt is on to nab him,” he added.—AFP
