Breach occurs in watercourse

SANGHAR, May 2: A 30-feet wide breach occurred in the Samarjo Shakh of Khipro irri-gation sub-division on Wednesday.

The villagers plugged the breach after 20 hours efforts. The irrigation officials were unaware of the breach till next morning and they reached the spot after about 14 hours.

By that time a large number of villagers from surrounding had gathered there. The supply gates were closed to reduce the water pressure.

The breach was plugged On Thursday by 4:30pm. About 2 to 3 hundreds acres of land, prepared for cotton sowing, came under water.

A local landlord, Saindad Mari, told newsmen that it was due to the negligence of irrigation officials, who after taking bribe, released maximum water, and deprived the other khatedars of water without any consideration of rotation system or schedule of water supply.
