Two ‘robbers’ shot dead by police

SAHIWAL, June 10: The Ghaziabad police, together with some villagers, shot dead two robbers in an encounter at Chak 169/9-L branch road on Tuesday morning.

Reports said four armed men, who had barricaded Chichawatni-Burewala Road by putting a wood block between Chak 168/9-L and 169/9-L, stopped four villagers (riding two motorcycles) and roped them. They snatched cash and mobile phone sets from the passersby.

In the meantime, another motorcyclist reached the spot but managed to wheel away and informed the Ghaziabad police. A mobile squad, accompanied by some villagers, hurried towards the spot where they exchanged fire with the robbers. The shootout proved fatal for two of the robbers who were ditched by their accomplices who escaped by a motorcycle.

Ghaziabad police SHO Sajid Husain Shah said those killed were identified as Muhammad Riaz and Muhammad Abid. Their accomplices, Nazir and Tariq, made good their escape.

The Ghaziabad police registered a case.
