LAHORE, June 4: The chief engineers of the irrigation and power department have been asked to install water gauges at all canals and distributaries by June 10 in order to resolve water disputes and measure water supply in the canals.
Punjab Senior Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad directed that complaints by farmers be dealt with promptly and complainants be informed about the status of their complaints within 48 hours, while staff failing to respond to public complaints quickly would be held responsible and action would be taken against them.
Ahmad concluded that the repair and maintenance of canals and minors should be given priority as the irrigation sector plays a vital role in agricultural productivity.
