MARDAN, May 31: A noted psychiatrist and Islamic scholar has termed President Musharraf a security risk for the country and asked him to resign with honour.

Dr Farooq Khan, during a lecture on “Ummat Musallima kay kamyabi ka rasta” at the Mardan Press Club on Saturday, criticised the president saying that he rocked the country by ‘destroying’ its democratic and judicial institutions just for the sack of power. He claimed that the presidency had become an ‘evil house’.

He feared that if the president did not resign, it could create rift among the coalition partners in government, and there could be a civil war in the country. He suggested that a resolution should be presented in the National Assembly to impeach him. He also criticised those judges who took oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO).

Dr Khan said that the proposed constitutional package should be presented in the Parliament. He welcomed the government’s decision on the proposed Kalabagh dam project and renaming of the NWFP a Pakhtunkhwa.

The scholar deplored that there was no democracy in majority of the Muslim countries. “Until and unless the Muslim rulers and so-called kings do not change their attitude and introduce democracy in their countries, they could not join the rank of developed and progressive countries of the world,” he said.— Correspondent
