KASUR, May 20: Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal during his maiden visit to his home district on Tuesday announced mega development projects as “compensation for inordinate delay in the uplift.”
The new development projects for which Rs560 million had been earmarked would usher in an era of prosperity in this neck of the wood, he told the
nazims, members of the district council and the PML-N workers at the District Council Hall.
Prominent among the participants were PML-N district head Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan (a former district nazim), MNA Rao Mazhar Hayat Khan, Tehsil Nazim Agha Naveed Hashim Rizvi and DCO Abdul Jabbar Shaheen.
Rana Iqbal said the construction of Lahore-Kasur dual carriageway would restart in a day or two while work on Kasur to Gandah Singhwala and Kasur-Deepalpur roads would also start afresh.
He alleged that the PML-Q-backed setup had ignored the district despite a clear-cut mandate of the public. Now the emergence of the PML-N would improve things for them, he added.
CS’ VISIT CANCELLED: Punjab Chief Secretary Javed Mahmood on Tuesday cancelled his first visit to the district as the EDOs failed to submit the records regarding development works from 2001 to 2008.
The chief secretary had scheduled a visit to the district to take stock of the projects of various departments in the wake of complaints about irregularities, besides holding an open court.
DCO Abdul Jabbar Shaheen called a meeting of EDOs, DDOs, TMOs and other officials to convey the CS’s concern and message that he would visit the district after a fortnight.
