Five hurt in attack on police team

QUETTA, May 19: Five people travelling in a van on the RCD Highway were injured when the District Police Officer of Lasbela and other police officers came under fire in Hub town.

The DPO, Habibullah Sherani, and other police officers were attacked when they were inspecting the site where an intelligence official was gunned down on Sunday night, a senior police official said. “Mr Sherani has taken charge only two weeks ago,” he said.

The van, carrying employees of a private factory, had been caught in the crossfire.

“There were four armed men on two motorbikes,” police said, adding that they escaped after the attack. The injured men were taken to Karachi.

There were unconfirmed reports that two of the injured had died.

The killing of the intelligence officer, Subedar Nizakat, who was gunned shot dead in Hub town, was being investigated. No arrest has so far been reported.
