Council accuses DCO of power abuse

SANGHAR, May 14: The members of district council on Wednesday accused the district coordination officer of overstepping his powers, and sought cancellation of his orders for transfers and postings.

The members said that the DCO Khuda Bux Larik had illegally made transfers and postings and the EDO of finance had withheld release of payments for the schemes, which had already been completed.

They said that additional EDOs and supervisors for which there was no provision in law had been posted in the education department and a grade-7 official had been appointed to a grade-16 post in union council Shah Mardan.

They complained that the development work in the district had come to a standstill since one and a half month due to unnecessary interference of the DCO and the EDO of finance.

They said that the DCO and the EDO of finance did not bother to attend the council sessions with annual budget round the corner and decried the schools charging monthly fees during summer vacations.

The members said that illegal chopping of trees on the banks of Nara Canal was going on unabated and the influential landlords in connivance with irrigation officials had installed more than 20 illegal outlets on the Old Jamrao Canal.

They demanded removal of the outlets immediately to check water theft.
