LAHORE, April 28: Ten months have gone by but probe into theft of manuscripts from the Lahore Museum has not yet been completed.

Following the detection of the theft, then acting director Anjum Rehmani had been removed and an inquiry was initiated against him and other officials.

The information department that oversees the affairs of the museum has sent a number of reminders in this regard, but to no avail.

According to the fresh evidence given by sources in the museum, the manuscripts were removed apparently on June 28, 2001, when a security guard reportedly went home half an hour earlier and another was sent to the market.

The security in-charge reported everything okay at the museum’s closing and opening time.

The theft of the first manuscript was detected by an officer at around 11am on June 29, 2001. Then the authorities checked everything and found four other manuscripts missing.—Intikhab Hanif
