LAHORE, May 9: More driving licence issuing centres will be opened in the provincial capital to facilitate citizens so that they can get their licences conveniently. Also, the road from Ravi Bridge to the Civil Secretariat will be made a ‘Model Road’ and all permanent and temporary encroachments will be removed from the busiest patch with respect to traffic density.
According to a handout, these decisions were taken at a meeting presided over by Punjab Inspector General of Police Shaukat Javed here on Friday.
Participants of the meeting reviewed the performance of traffic police in detail and took various important measures to streamline the traffic flow on all city roads of the metropolis. Traffic DIG Ghalib Ali Bandisha, Chief Traffic Officer Ghulam Mahmood Dogar and other senior officers were among the participants.
The IG directed the Traffic DIG to make the road from Ravi Bridge to Civil Secretariat a model road and eliminate all encroachments from service lanes so that slow moving traffic could be diverted on service roads. He also directed them to install pedestrian signals on important crossings so that they could cross the road safely.
The IG also directed to launch a special campaign against violators of red signals and vehicles having improper lights and indicators. Participants of the meeting were informed that PEMRA had approved the licence of FM radio channel of Traffic Police and its transmission would start soon.
Through this FM Radio, the police will inform the citizens about the traffic situation on roads so that they may not face inconveniences. —APP
