MIRPURKHAS, May 9: Former Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim who has gone abroad with the help of his ‘masters’ will be made accountable for the misdeeds, said Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ayaz Soomro.

He said an inquiry was underway into corruption practices of former CM who ordered government lands to be transferred in the names of different people.

Talking to journalists here on Friday after attending a reception hosted by the National Bank of Pakistan Officers’ Association he said it was detected during probe that millions of rupees were utilized on papers with no physical work undertaken what so ever.

In an answer he said nazims were the product of corruption while reports had been sought by the government over district, taluka and union council nazims. Police and Anti-Corruption Establishment were conducting inquiry he said adding new districts including Qambar and Tando Allahyar were created as political bribe which will be reverted to their old status.

Regarding Police Order 2002 he said law experts were working to repeal it as it had divided the department into investigation and operation, opening floodgate for bribery adding it should be a wing for providing justice with all decisions taken under 1973 Constitution.

About lawyers he said those failing to attend courts would be removed. “In the past legal advisers, additional and assistant advocate generals recruited on political basis on handsome salaries with perks and privileges and zero efficiency will be shown the door,” he added.

He said his party within a month gave grant of one million rupees to the Sindh High Court Bar, and five hundred thousand and three hundred thousand rupees to each district and taluka bars, respectively.

He said lawyers housing colony will be established and they will be provided free medical facilities at the government’s expense. Courts in Upper Sindh will get air-conditioners to provide good atmosphere to judiciary, along with the construction of buildings wherever necessary, he added.

The government’s priority was to restore peace, law and order, bring an end to unemployment, and carry out development work he said and added that within a month’s time six bills had been presented in the Sindh Assembly with some under process. However, the authority of Gorakh Hill Station will be established through a bill, he said.

Recruitment of grade 1 to 4 and 5 to 9 employees had been initiated in health and education departments while CSS and commission pass officers with good repute were being posted to provide justice to masses.

He said a civil judge and a judicial magistrate will be appointed in each taluka and judiciary posts were being filled on merit. A committee will be setup on district level under the chairmanship of DCO to make recruitments on merit, he concluded.
