LAHORE, May 6: In view of the fast increasing vehicular traffic on roads, the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry has decided to facilitate city traffic police by providing them with necessary equipment to improve their working.

At a function held on the chamber premises to award certificates to traffic police officials, it was decided that the LCCI would help in holding seminars and conferences to create public awareness regarding traffic rules and regulations, according to a press release.

LCCI President Mohammad Ali Mian, traffic DIG Ghalib Bandesha, LCCI SVP Mian Muzaffar Ali, VP Shafqat Saeed Piracha and chairman standing committee on paper and paperboard Khamis Saeed Butt also spoke on the occasion.

The meeting was held to award appreciation certificates by the LCCI standing committee to the traffic police for ridding Shahalam, Anarkali Chowk, and Urdu Bazaar of all encroachments.

The DIG informed the participants that the police were putting their best efforts to ensure smooth flow of traffic, and remove encroachments.

LCCI chief Mohammad Ali Mian observed that disciplined traffic reflected the mood of society as a whole on the one hand and played its role in economic growth by cutting transportation time of goods on the other hand.

He urged the DIG to give feedback to the LCCI proposal regarding construction of parking plazas at different points in the city.

Later, the LCCI officials presented appreciation certificates to the DIG, city traffic officer Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, SP (traffic) Asif Khan, SP (city) Rana Ahmad Husain, former SP (traffic) Abdul Jabbar and Anarkali circle traffic DSP Arif Mahmmod Butt.—APP
