Highway blocked

SUKKUR, May 6: Passengers and drivers staged a sit-in on the Indus Highway near Kandhkot for seven hours on Monday morning to protest the killing of a passenger and injuries to six others, including a policeman by a group of armed dacoits.

A convey of passenger buses and trucks led by police was on way to Karachi from Peshawar when a group of armed men tried to stop them at Begari Laro.

However, the SHO Karampur with a police contingent reached the spot and dacoits seeing police opened fire which was duly returned.

The firing continued for an hour and claimed the life of a passenger Ajab Gul on the spot and inflicted injuries to six others, including policeman Gul Hussain Chachar, and passengers Miran Gul, Jehangir and Hafeez-Ur-Rehman.
