DERA GHAZI KHAN, May 5: Tight security arrangements and the presence of a number of policemen due to the presence of the chief minister in the city have paralysed the city life.

Government College professors and students and auto-workshop workers staged separate protest demonstrations against police highhandedness here on Monday.

Professors and students took to the street against Deputy Superintendent of Police (headquarters) Yaqoob Awan who, according to them, mistreated Prof Muhammad Bukhsh at the gate of the college. The police officer was deployed along the road to keep the route clear for the chief minister’s movement in the city. Dost Muhammad Khosa is in the city to attend various welcome ceremonies.

Due to the presence of a VVIP personality in the city, the city is under the siege of security personnel, a situation which is creating problems for the people.

Teachers, along with students, blocked Dera-Jampur Road by parking the college bus in the middle of the road. The protesters chanted slogans against the police.

Also, a procession of workers of auto workshops carrying banners against Saddar station house officer Iqbal Chandia joined the professors and students.

They demanded the termination of the police officer who, according to them, had picked their colleague Arif and subjected him to torture.

The police officer is also believed to be involved in an ‘encounter’ in which Ajmal was killed. His father tried to see the chief minister but the tight security arrangements kept him miles from Mr Khosa.
