KARACHI: Woman gets life for killing friend

KARACHI, April 30: An additional district and sessions court, west, on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to a woman on charges of killing a man.

Judge Jungu Khan Rajput found Sughra, wife of Mohammad Wali, guilty of killing Mullazim Hussain by throwing acid on him and observed that the prosecution proved its case.

According to the prosecution, Ms Sughra and Mullazim Hussain, who was stated to be her friend, had rented a house in Jackson police limits in May 2006. Over some petty disputes, she threw acid on Mullazim, badly wounding him on May 25, 2006. He was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his burn wounds.

On the complaint of the house owner, Jackson police registered a case (FIR No 185/2006) under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Judicial magistrate, east, Pervez Qadir Memon, meanwhile, extended the physical remand of two suspects till May 3 in the professor’s murder case.

The body of a retired professor of Karachi University, Dr Zeba Zakia, 75, was found dumped in the bushes on January 29, 2008, from the jurisdiction of Sachal police station. The deceased was unmarried and used to live alone in her Gulshan-i-Iqbal residence.

On April 17, police booked the deceased’s driver, Saleem alias Shabbir, her housemaid, Khalda, and Munir Abbassi on charges of killing the retired professor under Section 302/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Khalda was already in jail custody.

Hindu worker’s murder

The judicial magistrate, east, directed the investigation officer to submit a charge-sheet in a case pertaining to the murder of a Hindu worker in a garments factory.

On April 16, Waqas, Usman and Hashim were booked on charges of beating one of their colleagues to death at a leather garments factory in Korangi Industrial Area.

According to the prosecution, Jagdesh was beaten to death by his co-workers on April 8 after the deceased had allegedly made blasphemous remarks about Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).

Korangi police had registered a case (FIR No 262/2008) under Section 302/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at station. The suspects were in jail custody.
