OKARA, April 28: Tension revisited the Kulana Estate on Monday after retired army men staged a rally to protest the burning of two acres of wheat crop by activists of the Anjuman-i-Mazareen Punjab (AMP).
Reports said dozens of ex-servicemen under the leadership of Brig Ali Jawad (retired) and Col Zafar Ali (retired) staged the demonstration outside the DCO’s office in District Courts Complex.
The protesters alleged that AMP President Malik Saleem Jakkhar and his accomplice set on fire their wheat crop. They demanded that a case should be registered against the accused.
Meanwhile, AMP President Saleem Jakkhar alleged that workers of retired army men had kidnapped a tenant, Javaid, of Chak 28/2-R, some two days back. He said police had recovered Javaid from the same village, but Satgrah police were reluctant to register a case against the accused.
To save themselves from the kidnapping case, his opponents were leveling baseless charges against him, he said.
LOOTED: Three unidentified armed men looted Rs0.8 million in cash and a cell phone from ghee dealer Muhammad Nasir on Mandi Road on Monday.
