KARACHI: Woman gunned down

KARACHI, April 22: A 25-year-old woman was shot dead on Tuesday while a man was killed in a quarrel in separate incidents in the city, witnesses and police said.

Witnesses said the woman was returning to her house in Landhi from a factory in the nearby Korangi Industrial Area when a young man on a motorcycle intercepted her and shot her after a verbal exchange.

They said the attacker fled swiftly as the woman fell to the ground after being shot at.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where she was identified as Ambreen Hina, daughter of Mohammed Aleem. She was living with her widowed mother in Landhi.

Hospital sources said the victim was shot with a single bullet from point blank range, while the bullet pierced through her skull.

The police initially suspected the woman was killed during a bungled robbery. However, they said her personal belongings and handbag were found intact.

Korangi Industrial Area police registered a murder case (FIR 130/08) against an unknown assailant on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Mohammed Naeem Khan.
