KARACHI: Two killed by robbers

KARACHI, April 19: Two persons were killed when they resisted robbery attempts in different parts of the city on Saturday.

A teenaged boy was killed in Garden when two armed motorcyclists opened fire on him as he resisted their attempt to snatch his cellphone. Fifteen-year-old Kashif died on the spot while his friend, Noman, who was standing beside him, sustained a bullet wound.

Police said the body was moved to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors found a bullet in his upper torso. Noman, however, survived as the bullet had brushed his shoulder.

Witnesses said the area police, who normally kept one of their mobile vans on patrolling duty in the vicinity, arrived after the incident to help move the victim’s body.

“We are in the process of completing formalities and will register the case once they are completed,” said an official at the Garden police station.

In the other incident, Qudratullah was shot dead in Soldier Bazaar when he resisted a robbery attempt from two motorcyclists.

Witnesses said the victim was waiting for someone near the Solider Bazaar-3 bus-stop when he was trapped by two dacoits, who demanded his valuables.

“After giving away all the things, he tried to grab one of the dacoits, which provoked the other to open fire on him while kick-starting the motorbike,” said an area police official, citing eyewitness.

He said though the gunman ran away from the scene, his accomplice was chased and overpowered by the patrolling unit of the Solider Bazaar police station.

“He has been identified as Mumtaz while we are making every effort to arrest his accomplice,” said the official.

Earlier, the body of a young man was found in Federal B Area. The victim was believed to have died after being hit by a heavy metal object in the head.

“He has been identified as Shahzad, in his late 20s,” said a Samanababd police station official.
