LAHORE, April 15: A former employee of the defunct Lahore deputy commissioner office who retired in 2001 has been working as the private secretary of Chief Secretary Javed Mahmood for the last two days without any appointment.
Chand Khan was reportedly a driver when Javed Mahmood was the Lahore deputy commissioner. He was later promoted as head driver and then protocol officer of the DC office.
He emerged in the chief secretary’s office on Monday and reportedly took hold of the office of his private secretary which fell vacant after the sacking of Malik Allah Yar, holding the post for the past several years despite his retirement because of repeated extension in service.
Malik Allah Yar’s replacement with another retired employee of almost the same age surprised many who wondered as to how he had been appointed against a post when the new government had sacked nearly 3500 re-employed people.
The chief secretary later told reporters that Mr Khan had not been appointed and he was serving as his personal employee. He would continue till the availability of a trustworthy official for the post of the personal secretary.
