ISLAMABAD, April 23: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has shown a growth of 6.4 per cent in net profit of the company, which stood at Rs13,086 million as compared to corresponding last year’s figure of Rs12,298 million.

According to a PTCL spokesman, the unaudited accounts of the PTCL for the nine-month period ended on March 31, 2002 were presented to the Board of Directors in a meeting held on Tuesday.

Akhtar Ahmad Bajwa, the PTCL chairman, presided over the meeting. The Board members lauded the excellent financial performance of the PTCL and hoped the Company would continue to perform in the same manner in future as well.

The company’s total revenue for the period was Rs47,936 million compared with Rs45,250 million of nine months ended on March 31 2001.

The domestic revenue has revealed an increase of Rs3,953 million from Rs 30,273 million to Rs34,226 million, whereas international revenue has shown a decline of 8.5 per cent from Rs14,976 million to Rs13,710 million, mainly due to reduction in International Accounting Rates and rupee parity against foreign currencies.

The domestic long distance revenue has increased by 13 per cent despite reduction in long distance call charges. The un-audited profit before taxation was Rs20,882 million for the first 9 months’ of 2001-02, which is 11 per cent higher as compared with same period of last year.—PPI
