HYDERABAD, Oct 23: About 50 newsmen of Hyderabad here on Tuesday staged token hunger strike outside Hyderabad press club to protest against the kidnapping of the sister of a journalist.
The newsmen condemned the armed attack at the residence of Ghulam Hussain Khaskheli, staff correspondent of Sindhi daily Ibrat, in Sakrand and the kidnapping
of his sister Ms Hasina Khaskheli.
They demanded of the Sindh government and Nawabshah district administration to take immediate steps to recover the kidnapped girl.
They warned if Hasina was not recovered within 24 hours, a call would be given to the journalists of Sindh to stage protest sit-in at Sakrand and Nawabshah.
The journalists specially asked Nawabshah district Nazim Ms Faryal Talpur to take personal interest in the recovery of the kidnapped girl.
COLLEGE ATTENDANCE: The principal of government degree college and postgraduate centre Latifabad unit No.11, Prof S Ali Ahmed Zaidi has announced that 75 per cent attendance in classes was mandatory without which the examination forms of the students would not be submitted to the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Hyderabad, and Sindh University Jamshoro.
He has specially advised the first year and second year students of pre-medical, pre-engineering and arts groups to ensure their compulsory attendance of 75 per cent in the classes.
He has also asked the parents to motivate their children to attend classes regularly and made it absolutely clear that no excuse would be accepted in this regard.
ELECTIONS: The registrar of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro has notified on Tuesday that Dr A A Abro, dean, faculty of technology, and Prof Mohammad Soomar Khatri, chairman, department of civil engineering, have been elected members of the university syndicate.
He said elections in this regard were held on Saturday last.
SU RESULTS: The controller of examinations, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, has announced on Tuesday the results of MEd (morning) semester examinations 2000-2001 and MEd (evening) semester examinations 2000-2001.
