Axe also falls on 57 education officials: BISE, PTBB heads among them

LAHORE, April 11: The provincial education department on Friday sacked 57 re-employed officials, including DPI (Colleges), the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and the Punjab Textbook Board chairmen, on the directions of the Punjab government.

The Punjab University fired 34 re-employed officials who include additional registrar and secretaries to the vice-chancellor and registrar.

PU Registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan told Dawn that the university had sacked 34 employees serving against administrative posts. It had also submitted compliance report to the Punjab governor, the chief minister and the chief secretary.

In response to a question, he said the university had so far taken no decision whether or not to sack the re-employed teaching staff as it would seek guidance from the government in this regard.

The University of Engineering and Technology has shown the door to 17 employees, including 12 teachers.

In school education wing, the government has sacked 17 officials. They are: Government Community High School, Begum Road, headmaster Muhammad Azam Butt (also chairman of the All-Pakistan Teachers Federation); Sultan Ahmad Rai, subject specialist at the Government Watan Islamia High School, Brandreth Road, Lahore; Ms Naz Perveen, senior headmistress of the Government Junior Model School, Gulberg; Hafiz Sabir Ali of the Government Christian Higher Secondary School, Sialkot; Muzaffar Ahmad Bajwa of the Government Tableeghul Islam High School, Sialkot; Chaudhry Muhammad Anwaar, assistant director budget and planning at EDO’s Gujrat office; Muhammad Afzal, headmaster of the Government High School, Gujrat.

The higher education department has sacked 37 re-employed officials. They include BISE chairman Prof Dr Zikariya Butt, PTBB chairman Amjad Islam Amjad, DPI (College) Dr Shaukat Ali, Gujranwala board secretary Muhammad Anwar Khan, Sargoda EDO Muhammad Yousaf and Lahore board’s research and coordination wing in-charge Malik Nasim Hasan.
