The flight cancellations caused disruptions at all airports in the US. The largest carrier in the United States had cancelled 500 flights on Tuesday.
In a statement, American Airlines spokesman Tim Wagner said that 208 of the flights cancelled on Wednesday involved the carrier’s main hub at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
It was the second wave of cancellations by the airline over the issue of wiring. American Airlines is inspecting — and if necessary — reworking the wiring bundles on its MD-80 aircraft to comply with federal safety rules.
Thousands of passengers were seen stranded at all the three New York airports — namely, the JFK, La Guardia and Newark — as seats on other airlines were hard to come by. The American Airlines alone operates about 2,300 flights daily.
