GUJRANWALA, April 21: Civil Lines police on Sunday claimed to have arrested a four-member gang of outlaws who looted the house of an account officer at Commissioner Colony a few days ago.

Police also recovered looted goods and a pistol from their possession.

A police spokesman said ring leader Qaiser, Victor Masih, John and Baber were involved in looting several houses and passers-by in various parts of the city.

On a tip-off that accused were distributing looted goods in a local graveyard, a police team conducted a raid and arrested them. Police also recovered Rs50,000 in cash, ornaments, a pistol and other valuables.

A case has been registered against them.

VISIT: The president of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Maj-Gen Sardar Muhammad Anwer Khan (retired), will arrive here on Monday (today).

He will speak to Jammu and Kashmir refugees and activists of the Muslim Conference at the district council hall at 11 am besides meeting various other delegations.

This was stated by Muslim Conference leader Chaudhry Muhammad Ismail in a press release issued here on Sunday.

THREE KILLED: Three people, including an elderly woman, were killed while a dozen others suffered wounds in road accidents in and around the city here on Sunday.

Bashiran Bibi of Dharam Kot village was on her way home on foot when a speeding bus knocked her down on the Sheikhupura Road. She died on the spot.

Muhammad Abbas of Alipur Chattha was sitting on the roof of a bus when he fell down on the road when the driver suddenly applied the brakes. He sustained head injuries and died on the way to the local DHQ Hospital.

A speeding bus going to Qila Dedar Singh from the city crashed into a stationary tractor-trolley. Khushi Muhammad died instantly while around a dozen passengers received injuries. They were rushed to the DHQ Hospital, Qila Dedar Singh.

Police have registered cases and are investigating.

GODOWN LOOTED: A rice miller and his men on Sunday took away rice and paddy worth Rs5 million from a bank godown at Talwandi Musa Khan.

The rice miller had borrowed Rs25 million loan from the UBL’s Talwandi Musa Khan branch and the bank manager pledged 500 rice sacks and 2,750 paddy sacks against the loan.
