Qaim takes notice of scarcity

KHAIRPUR, April 2: Sindh Chief Minister designate Syed Qaim Ali Shah has taken notice of the shortage of irrigation water in Sindh and particularly in upper Sindh and Khairpur district and has directed the irrigation officials to ensure water supply at tail-ends of canals.

Mr Shah was talking to delegations of party workers, farmers and notables at Jilani House here on Tuesday night.

He called the chief engineer of irrigation of Sukkur Barrage at Jilani House. The engineer briefed him regarding the water situation.

Mr Shah directed the chief engineer to ensure water supply in those areas where needed most.

Talking to a delegation of People’s Party workers, he said that unemployment, price hike, law and order would be among his top priorities and added that the PPP has strong feelings regarding people’s sacrifices for democracy.

He added that the PPP had succeeded in long struggle against the dictatorship and their success was a result of struggle and sacrifices of people and the party workers.

He said that thousands of false cases were lodged against PPP workers and a thorough inquiry would be conducted into the lodging of such cases. He said cases will be lodged against complainants of false cases.

Earlier, thousands of party workers and supporters welcomed him by raising slogans of “Jeay Bhutto”, “Jeay Shaheed Benazir Bhutto”, “Zinda Hai Benazir Zinda Hai”.
