VEHARI, March 27: Doctors at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, Vehari, observed a strike for several hours on Thursday against the shortage of doctors and paramedics.

Vehari Pakistan Medical Association President Dr Khalid Mahmood told reporters the hospital was short of 36 doctors. He said the present strength of doctors was 24 while the hospital required 60 in all. He said the doctors were suffering burnout which had affected their performance. He said if their demands were not met in few days, they would go on strike for indefinite period.

EDO (health) Dr Zulfiqar Bhango met doctors and assured them the government would meet their demands. Dr Bhango said he had informed additional health secretary Muhammad Khan Khichi about doctors’ demands and the secretary promised to fulfill the demands. — Correspondent
