MIRPURKHAS, March 27: Umerkot DPO Ghulam Sarwar Jamali formed a special police team on Thursday to investigate into the murder of Manthar Rahimoon, a Pakistan People’s Party activist, who died reportedly after party rivals set him on fire about 17 days ago.
The team comprises Umerkot Supervising Police Officer Manzoor Khoso, SHO Ghulam Nabi Shar, ASI Qurban Ali Panhwar and Dur Mohammad Khoso.
Manthar Rahimoon, a truck driver, suffered serious burns after some people set him on fire and was moved to Umerkot Civil Hospital on March 11. He was later referred to Liaquat Medical University Hospital Hyderabad due to his critical condition. He died on March 19 in the burns ward of LMUH Hyderabad.
Manthar who belonged to Sako village in Chhachhro taluka had told reporters during his brief stay at Umerkot Civil Hospital that among the people who set him ablaze he could see only Rasool Bux Nohri, with whom he had exchanged hot words at a polling station in Chhachhro on the polling day.
Manthar’s brother Ayoub Rahimoon had lodged an FIR at Umerkot police station accusing Rasool Bux Nohri, Chhachhro Taluka Nazim Dilawar Nohri, Ghaffar Nohri, Akbar Nohri, Shero Junejo, Mir Mohammad Nohri and Shahmir Samejo of killing his brother.
Police succeeded in arresting the accused Rasool Bux Nohri, sought his remand after 14 days and sent him to sub jail of Umerkot on the orders of the civil Judge and judicial magistrate Umerkot-II.
Investigation Officer ASI Dur Mohammad Khoso said that he had submitted interim challan of the case to the court of civil judge and judicial magistrate. The accused Dilawar Nohri, Akbar Nohri and Ghaffar Nohri had obtained interim bail before arrest from the Hyderabad circuit bench of the Sindh High Court while Shero Junejo, Mir Mohammad Nohri and Shahmir Samejo had absconded, he said.
FIRE: Fire reduced around 25 huts of peasants to ashes and burnt 0ver a dozen goats to death in Qaim Khaskheli village in the jurisdiction of Dilbar Maher police station here on Thursday.
Reports said that fire broke out in a hut due to short circuit, which engulfed its neighbouring huts in a matter of minutes, reducing household articles, stored wheat and seeds to ashes besides burning to death goats.
Fire tenders from Mirpurkhas and Sindhri rushed to the village and succeeded in putting off the fire after several hours.
KIDNAPPED: Two traders Narain and Shagan were allegedly kidnapped when they were on a walk on the Digri-Tando Jan Mohammad road early on Thursday morning, police said.
