KARACHI, April 19: Five alleged bandits and three residents were killed and nine others injured in Lyari early Friday in what police termed an encounter.

In a pitched battle between the police and alleged bandits that lasted over three hours, no policeman suffered any injury.

Police claimed that the bandits were armed with sophisticated weapons.
