LAHORE, March 10: Fall of water to run-of-the-river level in dams leads to reduction in power generation by 300 to 500 megawatt (MW) that will be overcome through alternative arrangements.

A spokesman for the Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) told APP here on Monday that it was not true that decline of water to dead level in big reservoirs would create power crisis.

He said Pepco would overcome the 300 to 500 megawatt shortage through its alternative arrangements as it could produce 600MW electricity through gas.

However, he said, there was a deficit of 500MW to 750MW in demand and supply of electricity, adding that it was 500MW from 7am to 5pm and 750MW during peak hours from 5pm to 10pm. However, he said there was no shortage of electricity from midnight to 7am.
