LAHORE, Feb 28: The Cambridge International Examinations' (CIE) regional manager, South Asia, William Bickerdike, says the performance of Pakistani students in O and A level examinations is constantly brilliant, year after year.
Mr Bickerdike was speaking at the certificate distribution ceremony organised for the High Achievers in 2007 at a local hotel on Thursday.
He said it had almost become a tradition for Pakistani students to attain the highest possible marks in their syllabus while competing with a very large global cohort.
He said that reasons behind the brilliant performance was the immense support from teachers and parents to the students. The training option for teachers was also a contributing factor, he said.
LUMS Vice-Chancellor Dr Syed Zahoor Hasan said the high achievers showed that they were the unsurpassed in the world. He advised the achievers to make Pakistan best in the world instead of going to the rest of the world.
Dr Hasan called upon them to play their due role in the development of Pakistan. He also stressed that students should broaden their set of ambitions.
About 120 high achieving students, who topped in the city, Pakistan and in the world, were awarded certificates at the ceremony. Out of total 120, some 20 students topped in the world from June and November 2007 examinations in CIE syllabuses, while six students earned the honour in the University of London syllabuses.
