KARACHI, April 14: Fifth seed Saleh Mohammad stole the limelight on the second day of the Sixth Red & White Style Snooker Championship when he stroked a marvellous 141 clearance in his 4-1 victory over Ahmed Bawany at the Karachi Gymkhana on Sunday.
Potting everything in sight, Saleh was one point ahead of Yousuf’s magnificent 140 clearance a day before against Mustafa Hyder, but just failed to equal his Pakistan record of 144.
Saleh, a former world No 3, chalked up a break of 50 in the opening frame (69/16) to which Bawany replied with 46 points on the trot in the next frame (75/46) to equalize the frame scores 1-1.
But that effort was to be Bawany’s last hurrah and Saleh won the next three frames 51/48, 62/55, 141/0 and the match to perch himself on top in Group E.
Second seed and defending champion Farhan Mirza, after getting a walkover the previous day, beat Punjab’s Khurram Khan 68/43, 79/59, 62/61.
But top seed Khurram Hussain Agha made a narrow escape when he beat Fahad Asif of Punjab on the black. Khurram won 64/36, 13/63, 21/72, 59/29, 70/42, 16/80, 54/53.
Sixth seed Imran Shehzad registered another victory, beating Mohammad Amin 4-1, whilst eight seed Shakeel Bhatti had to break into a sweat once again, while disposing off Azeem Akhtar 4-2.
Danish Haroon had the mortification of losing once again by a 3-4 margin, going down to Faisal Essa after leading 2-0 and 3-2 at one stage of the match.
In another game that went the full distance, former Pakistan No.2 Younus Amir Bux from the KPT, beat Noman Awan 4-3.
