WASHINGTON, April 13: A Pakistani organization has raised $50,000 for Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital in Lahore, including a $1,000 donation from former US vice-president Al Gore.

The amount was raised by the Friends of Pakistan at a function held here on Friday evening.

The chief guest on the occasion was Ms Cheryl Healton, president of the American Legacy Foundation — an anti-smoking group set up with the help of money received from legal settlements against United States tobacco multinationals.
