Millers seek equal wheat quota

LAHORE, Feb 21: The Punjab chapter of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) has demanded provision of equal wheat quota to all the mills and immediate withdrawal of Rangers personnel deployed at the mills.

The demands were voiced through a resolution adopted at a meeting of the association held here on Thursday with Habibur Rehman Leghari in chair. The millers also demanded discontinuation of interference by government agencies in millers’ affairs, supply of white wheat instead of imported red to the mills and resumption of routine sampling instead of daily special sampling.

Leghari said there was no justification for continuation of deployment of Rangers at the mills as the flour crisis was over. He said the flour crisis had been created owing to short supply of wheat, which had been controlled after increase in supplies.

He said the mill owners would continue cooperating with the government in its efforts to ensure free availability of flour in the province.
