Amir to fight WBO eliminator

LONDON, Feb 18: Amir Khan will fight a WBO lightweight title eliminator against Martin Kristjansen on April 5, it was revealed on Monday.

Promoter Frank Warren had explored the possibility of the 21-year-old making his US debut before opting for Kristjansen.

“We had a contract with Kristjansen which he insisted we honour and that’s what we’ve done. But it’s worked out well because it’s put Amir in the frame to fight for the world title, hopefully at some point this year,” Warren said.

The 17th bout of unbeaten Amir’s professional career will be staged in his hometown of Bolton.—AFP
