TOBA TEK SINGH, April 12: A proclaimed offender was arrested on Friday after an hour encounter with alleged dacoits from a forest near Chak 741-GB, Pirmahal.
On a tip-off, district police chief Amer Zulfikar sent a heavy police contingent on Thursday night to arrest dacoits Allah Yar alias Yaroo, Ali Raza Shah and Ghulam Shabbir alias Shabbri who were hiding in the forest. The police cordoned off the area, but the exchange of fire took place on Friday morning. After the one hour shootout, police succeeded in arresting the PO belonging to Sindh province while his three accomplices managed to escape.
Police also recovered a hand-grenade and weapons from the arrested PO, besides two motorcycles which the outlaws had snatched from villagers a few days ago.
The gang was involved in dozens of robbery and dacoity incidents in the area. The outlaws were wanted by police of different provinces in heinous crimes.
KIDNAPPED: A student of the Government Girls High School No 2 was allegedly kidnapped by three persons in a car on Friday when she was on her way home.
The people informed the police who sealed all roads of town. Police later arrested all three outlaws and recovered the car and the abducted girl.
TWO KILLED: Two persons were killed on Friday in accidents on the Gojra-Faisalabad Road.
Fazal Ahmad of Chak 348-JB was coming from Faisalabad by his car (LXF-8853). Near Chaudhry Sugar Mills, his car rammed into a tractor-trolley loaded with sugarcane. He died on the spot.
Abdul Rehman of Chak 283-JB was crushed to death by a speeding bus (GDD-5533) near Bahmniwala. He was crossing the road.
POSTPONED: A protest procession planned by cultivators of Chuttiana and Khikha areas for April 13 will now be taken out on April 15.
This was announced by farmers action committee chairman and former MPA Mian Muhammad Rafiq here on Friday.
He said the rally would start from Khikha and would be terminated at the district headquarters after marching through various roads and villages.
