Hepatitis-B vaccination campaign launched
SIALKOT, April 12: The health department on Friday launched Hepatitis-B vaccination campaign in the district.
The department has set up vaccination centres in all the government hospitals, BHUs and RHUs in the district. Besides that mobile teams have been constituted which will go door to door to vaccinate the children up to one year of age.
Addressing a ceremony at the Anwar Club here, Sialkot district Nazim Mian Naeem Javaid said adequate measures have been taken to eradicate polio and TB from the district.
He said a system has been devised to stop the misuse and theft of the hepatitis-B vaccination.
There are around 100,000 people infected with hepatitis-B virus in 2.9 million population of Sialkot district.
VILLAGER HURT: A Pakistani villager was injured by Indian shelling on border village Waince in Sucheetgarh sector here on Friday night.
According to official sources, Muhammad Latif, 60, was sitting in the courtyard of his house when some Indian bullets hit him. He was admitted to the Sialkot CMH in critical condition.
WHEAT PROCUREMENT: The food department will launch its wheat procurement drive in Sialkot and Narowal districts on Saturday (today).
The department has announced that it would purchase about 800,000 bags of wheat direct from the growers at the support price of Rs300 per maund.
Meanwhile, official sources told Dawn that a bumper crop was expected in Sialkot and Narowal districts this year.
NO ELECTRICITY: The supply of electricity remained suspended for about six hours in Daska city and its outskirts — 10am to 4pm.
A large number of people protested against the Gepco authorities. They claimed that power suspension for hours has become a routine.
ILLEGAL DETENTION: A Lahore High Court bailiff on Thursday night raided the Daska city police station and recovered a youth, Muhammad Salim, from illegal detention of police.
The LHC summoned the police station SHO on April 15.
