PESHAWAR, Feb 11: Awami National Party president Asfandyar Wali Khan has said that fearing that democratic forces would sweep the election, terror acts were being carried out to get it postponed.
Reacting to the blast in North Waziristan in a statement issued here on Monday, he condemned the attack on an election jirga organised by party’s candidate in Mirali. Attack on election jirga in Eidik village, he said, was aimed at sabotaging peaceful efforts in resolution of conflicts in the troubled areas.
The government’s way of handling things in Waziristan was provocative for the Pakhtun population, who had paid dearly for the so-called war on terrorism, he added.
These attacks, he said, were used as a tool to postpone the election or at least secure low turnout in it to pave way for formation of national government with the same set-up.
