HYDERABAD, Feb 9: Paying rich tributes to Ms Benazir Bhutto for her services for the cause of democracy and downtrodden masses of the country, intellectuals, writers and politicians demanded that the United Nations should be asked to conduct an investigation into her assassination.

They were speaking at a seminar on “Martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto; Investigations and Compulsions of Law” organised by “Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Memorial Society Sindh” at Yasrab hall Qasimabad on Friday evening.

Advocate Allah Bachayo Soomro read out a massage of Mr Justice Bhagwandas who was to preside over the seminar but could not make it.

Justice Bhagwandas said in his message that the narrow mindedness was the product of ignorance and that mindset gave birth to fanaticism which resulted in bloodshed. He said ignorance and democracy could not go together.

He said Ms Benazir Bhutto had returned to Pakistan to eliminate ignorance, poverty and unemployment which had created some hope for the unemployed youth. He said everyone should try to complete the mission of the great leader.

Former MPA Humera Alwani said that Ms Benazir Bhutto was the symbol of federation and she had united the people of all federating units on one platform.

Former MNA Shagufta Jumani said that although the vested interests had removed the great leader from the scene, she continued to rule over the hearts and minds of the people.

She said the establishment was frightened of her because she had enjoyed an unflinching support of the downtrodden masses.

Noted writer Shoukat Hussain Shoro said Ms Bhutto has become a legend and she was the last hope for the people of Sindh.

Noted poet Imdad Hussaini demanded that the UN should be entrusted with the investigation of the murder as it was not only the demand of the PPP but also of the majority of the people.
