ISLAMABAD, Feb 9: Speakers here on Saturday stressed on the need for a dialogue between the East and West to create a room for co-existence of the two civilisations.

They were speaking at an international seminar “The resonance of the East and the West” organised by a Turkish organisation, Rumi Forum, held at the Allama Iqbal Open University here on Saturday.

On the occasion, Turkish ambassador Engin Soysal said Turkey acts as a pendulum between the West and East, adding that its accession to the European Union would bridge the wide gap and remove wrong perceptions of the West about the East and vice versa.

Turkey’s accession will change the misperceptions being entertained by the West regarding the Muslim World and help develop harmonious relations in the world, the ambassador added.

He said Turkey and Pakistan enjoyed unique relations rooted in their culture and history and both the countries have a rich cultural heritage which can be a model for other nations to follow.

The ambassador highlighted the potential the two countries possess and stressed on tapping the same through positive outlook. Both the brotherly countries had large youth population which is a great asset and should be properly utilised, he said.
