Boy drowns in drain
FAISALABAD, April 10: A minor boy drowned in an open drain in Kanak Basti of Ghulam Muhammadabad on Tuesday night.
Six-year-old Omair Ali was playing in the street with other children of the area when he fell in the open drain.
Some youths of the area rushed to the spot after hearing the hue and cry of other children but could not save the boy. A Wasa team reached the spot after couple of hours and recovered the body.
Residents of the area have urged the Punjab governor to order Wasa authorities to cover the open drains in the city.
LAWYERS’ PROTEST: Hundreds of lawyers took out a protest procession on Wednesday to press the government for setting up a bench of the high court in Faisalabad.
The lawyers were wearing black armbands and chanting slogans in favour of their demands. They were also carrying banners and placards inscribed with demand of setting up a high court bench in the city.
The procession started from offices of the District Bar Association. Led by DBA President Muhammad Rafiq Batalvi, the participants in the procession marched within the District Courts.
President Muhammad Rafiq Batalvi, Secretary-General Masood Sarwar and other office-bearers of the DBA urged President Gen Pervez Musharraf to announce setting up of a high court bench in Faisalabad during his visit to the city on April 14 and address the Bar.
They threatened to set up protest camps at all main intersections of the city and march on city roads if their demand was not met. —Staff Correspondent
