HYDERABAD, April 10: A woman, Sharifan, the widow of folk artiste Abdul Ghafoor, threatened to immolate herself along with her son, Sarwar Ghafoor, outside the A-section police station, Latifabad, if the police officials concerned did not stop harassing them within 24 hours.

She said this while speaking at a news conference at the Hyderabad Press Club on Wednesday.

She said that for the last couple of years she and her son had been residing in the premises of the Mehran Arts Council Latifabad.

She complained that the A-section police station officials had been harassing her as well as her son, and added that two days ago policemen scaled the walls of her house, held them hostage and humiliated them.

She said that she and her son left their house in fear, and added that in their absence it was looted.

Ms Sharifan said that she had complained to the SHO, A-section police station, in writing and also informed senior police officers but in vain.

She said that even though there was no case against her or her son yet they were being constantly harassed by the A-section police.

She appealed to human rights activists to protect her and her son from the tyranny of the A-section police station.

She demanded that action be taken against the A-section police station officials.
